Some relationships are short-lived, and others have longevity, but I value them all. My life is shaped by those I encounter. This reality is true for my personal, professional, and spiritual life. In my personal life, I meet people who become my trusted friends. But I also meet people who show me how harmful certain character traits are. Although I choose to avoid people with questionable character, I am thankful that I come across them. Their example shows me which behaviors to embrace and which ones to bypass. At work, I am thankful for each of my colleagues because they bring something unique to the workplace. I learn from each of them. I am a completely new person after I finish an exercise routine! There is nothing in life that can compare to the euphoria I feel when I get to the end of an effective workout. Exercise lifts my mood even when I doubt my mood can be lifted. When I begin my jog at 5 am on a cold, bleak morning, I sometimes feel discouraged. I feel like I am about to be conquered by the elements that await me. My first lap around the block feels like torture, but as I allow myself to continue, I become more and more inspired. I feel my spirit begin to embrace my workout after about ten minutes. Once I get into my routine, it becomes less like a burden and more like a necessary part of life. My family and friends enjoy my company when my daily pursuits include exercise. I appear dramatically different to them when I workout, even if several hours have passed. Working out sometimes feels like a chore but I am committed to it. I choose exercise that increases my energy. Taking hikes exhilarates me, so I include them in my weekly workout routine. I practice fitness at the gym during the week, but I go for long, early morning hikes during the weekend. The scenery is uplifting. It is refreshing to feel my body work as I absorb the beauty of the natural environment around me. Challenging slopes are manageable because I am breathing fresh air. I look forward to getting to the top of a mountain. I feel proud of myself each time I accomplish that feat without quitting. It is also breathtaking to fill my nostrils with the scent of greenery and my lungs with clean air. My body hardly notices the wear it undergoes as I take in the moment at the top of the slope.
